Teen Shot by Taser Speaks After Charges Dropped

Hartford Superior Court dropped the case against Luis Anglero on Wednesday.

A Hartford teen shot by a Taser in an encounter with police that was captured on camera is opening up about his experience the day after a courtroom dropped the case against him.

"I want to thank the people that supported me for one because without them I never would have gotten the justice I deserve," said 18-year-old Luis Anglero.

Dozens have rallied around the teen. Supporters believe what happened back in August was a crime against him.

Surveillance footage shows Hartford police Det. Shawn Ware shooting a Taser at the 18-year-old, whom police described as aggressive. An investigation launched into Ware's conduct cleared him of misconduct allegations.

"I don't hold no grudges for no one," Anglero said at a press conference Thursday evening. "He did what he did, but it wasn't right."

The teen said he's still suffering from mental and physical injuries but declined to go into detail in a decision his lawyer said was based on the possibility of a future lawsuit.

"We'd like to stay away from the incident, particular facts in it, in case other litigation ensues," explained attorney Jamaal Johnson.

Johnson denied allegations included in the investigative report, which says that while the teen was being treated at the hospital, a doctor told police he believed "Anglero was exhibiting behavior indicative of PCP use."

"It's just one of many things that police have trumped up and lied about," said Johnson.

Anglero said he's now focusing on his future and hopes to go to college and eventually become a paramedic.

"I don't blame anyone for – I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me or anything. I'm just getting through it day by day," he said.
