Teen Dies From Injuries Suffered in Crash

A 17-year-old from Wallingford died from his injuries after a one-car crash Thursday night.  Two other teens remain in the hospital.

The teens were in a 1999 Volkswagen GTI when it crashed just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday on Whirlwind Hill Road. The driver lost control and broadsided a tree, police said, and all three teens had to be extricated from the car.

Brian McCarthy died Monday from his injuries. He was the front seat passenger.

It took crews awhile to extricate the driver of the car, Kevin Godeck, 18, because he was pinned against the tree, police said. He is in good condition.

The rear seat passenger, Christopher Hayden, 18, is in fair condition.

Police are investigating what caused the crash and are conducting a detailed mechanical inspection of the car.

It could take several weeks before a final investigative report is complete.
