Truck Plunges Off New Haven Bridge

The accident has halted train travel from New York to Boston

A truck went over the side of the Ferry Street Bridge in New Haven and onto the railroad tracks below, killing the driver Friday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m.

The driver was apparently on Middletown Avenue, and sped through a fence and over the bridge onto the train tracks below.

The truck took down several catenary wires used to power Amtrak and other trains along that stretch of tracks.

Amtrak service from New York to Boston, and Shoreline East service were suspended until at least Saturday morning, according to Amtrak.
