Vandals Strike the Windsor Locks Skate Park Again

For the second time this year the skate park next to the high school has been vandalized

The Windsor Locks skate park was hit again by vandals last week, forcing town officials to lock the front gate and keep skaters out.

"No Trespassing" signs lined the chain link fence for the past week after a vandal cut a large hole in the side of the fence.

Vandals sprayed graffiti on a portion of the park just a few months ago as well.

When the park is closed, skaters like Cale Lennon have no choice but to bring their skateboards elsewhere around town.

"It was lame. We had to skate around down and everyone doesn't like us. We don't want to bother anyone, but we don't have anywhere else to go," he said.

The park reopened for the time being although town officials said they will have to close to park for good if the vandalism continues.

"Everyone else is suffering the consequences of one person and their wrong actions," Desmond Carlson said.

The board of education, parks and recreation department and police have decided to install a security camera at the park to deter criminals and catch any vandals in the act. The camera will be installed soon, according to a police official.
