Veto Likely for State Budget Plan

The budget bill in Connecticut is now at the mercy of Governor Rell.   The House passed the Democratic budget measure with a 91-48 vote Friday.

Gov. Rell has called the two year $35.7 billion plan wrong for the state.  But that figure does not include transportation funding, which will supposedly be voted on before the fiscal year ends on June 30. The overall package will likely be more than $37 billion.

Rell has criticized the Democrats plan for raising taxes by $2.5 billion.  It's estimated only about $900 million of that figure includes ongoing taxes while the rest are temporary, such as surcharges on the estate and corporate income taxes.

Democrat sent Rell a letter Friday asking that if she vetoes the measure that new negotiations should begin Monday morning.
