Woman Rams Cruiser During Chase: Cops

A 24-year-old East Haven woman rammed a cruiser during a chase on Monday morning after a multi-town chase, state police said.

Early Monday morning, Hamden police were chasing the female driver on Interstate 91 and called state police for help, state police said.

Trooper Paul Comesanas came to the local department’s aid and positioned his cruiser to try and stop the woman. That did not work out as when planned when the woman rammed the police vehicle and almost caused the officer to lose control of his car, according to state police.

Another trooper tried to stop the woman with stop sticks at exit 43 southbound, but that did not work and she continued to drive down I-95, got off the highway in Orange and tried to get back on the highway at 41. The chase ended when she lost control of her car there, police said.

But, then the driver, identified as Miriam N. Concepcion, “refused to follow verbal commands,” so the state police dog “extracted” her from her vehicle, police said.

The dog bit Concepcion and she was taken to Saint Raphael’s Hospital for treatment, police said.

Trooper Comesanas was taken by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital for evaluation, treated and released.

Hamden police charged Concepcion with various motor vehicle charges and turned her over to state police, who levied several additional charges, including assault on a police officer, interfering with a police officer, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and engaging police in pursuit.

She was held on a $10,000 bond and is due to appear on Monday in Superior Court.
