2 Arrested in Gun, Bulletproof Vest Theft from State Police Cruiser

State police have arrested two suspects in the theft of an AR-15 rifle, two loaded magazines and a bulletproof vest from a state police cruiser in Milford, Connecticut, in March and said arrests are pending for two other people who are already incarcerated.

Travis Ingram, 20, of New Haven, has been charged with firearms trafficking, larceny, stealing a firearm and possession of an assault weapon as well as additional charges.

Leandre Crockett, 18, of New Haven, has been charged with firearms trafficking, larceny, stealing a firearm and possession of an assault weapon as well as additional charges.

The gun, vest and two fully loaded 30-round magazines were taken from the locked trunk of the cruiser on Rutland Road in Milford, according to state police.

In all, there were 12 car break-ins on West Rutland Road, Plains Road and Haystack Road and a green 2015 Ford Fusion with Vermont plates GHK528 was stolen at the end of the crime spree, according to Milford police.

In the months since the theft, state police, New Haven Police and the FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force have been working together on the case and were able to secure seven warrants for four people.

State police say the AR-15 rifle with two 30-round magazines and the department issued bullet proof west were recovered soon after the theft.

According to the affidavit, investigators conducted numerous interviews with several people and Ingram denied being involved in the theft, but acknowledged being friends with the other suspects.

Police, however, believe he broke into the state trooper's car on March 8, stole the items, went to a co-conspirator's house in New Haven with Crockett and illegally trafficked the AR-15.

His family is questioning the credibility of the men who gave investigator's Ingram's name and his mother said he was with his girlfriend the morning of the theft.

“They need to get their facts right before they charge him with anything, I know my son and he had nothing to do with this,” Travis' mother, Elana Ingram, said.

Travis Ingram is being held on two warrants and bond was set at $350,000. He appeared in in court in New Haven today.

He has been appointed a public defender and a hearing has been set for July 27. He will appear in court in Milford tomorrow.
