Bond Set at $1.5M in Wallingford Murder Case

The family said the relationship was volatile.

The man accused of killing a Wallingford woman is being held on $1.5 million bond.

Luis Roman, 41, is accused of killing Susan Mazzarella, 51, and he appeared in court on Wednesday.

Mazzarella was found strangled inside her Danny's Way apartment complex on July 16 and police said she had been dead for several days before her body was discovered.

Roman was released from prison in June, after serving a year-long sentence for two domestic violence incidents involving Mazzarella, according to police, and Mazzarella apparently allowed Roman to stay at her apartment after he got out of prison.

After Mazzarella's murder, Roman fled to Tampa, Florida, police said. They received a tip Roman was returning to Connecticut on a bus, and took him into custody July 19 at the bus station in New Haven, charging him with a probation violation.

Police said he later confessed to the crime.

Roman’s family told NBC Connecticut outside court that the couple had a volatile two-year relationship.

The case was continued to Aug. 16 and it will be held in New Haven court.
