A Bristol teen was honored Tuesday for her fundraising efforts to buy a bullet-proof vest for a department police dog.
Hayley Smith, 13, an eighth grade student at Chippens Hill Middle School, received a Citizen's Commendation for raising enough money for a canine protection vest.
She had the opportunity to meet the police dog and his handler at the ceremony.
Smith's goodwill doesn't stop there. She now hopes to raise money for a local boy with a muscular disability to pay for a wheelchair lift for his family's van, her mother told NBC Connecticut.
