Police Chase Ends With Car Slamming Into East Hartford Gym

A police pursuit ended with a car slamming into an East Hartford gym Wednesday, according to police.

Police said officers were chasing a suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Brandon Chaney, wanted for an earlier dispute involving a gun when Chaney crashed his vehicle into Club Fitness on Main Street. It happened around 4:30 p.m.

One passenger in Chaney’s vehicle suffered minor injuries, police said.

The building saw significant damage and had to close for the night but did reopen Thursday morning.

“I couldn’t believe it. I was like now there’s a car like totaled in the front of the gym,” said Club Fitness employee Lindsey Aguiar.

Aguair said there were a few people on the machines near where the car crashed through, but they only had minor cuts and bruises.

“It was at the beginning of rush hour. And a lot of people started showing up right after it happened. So it probably could have been a lot worse,” she said.
