NBCUniversal Media, LLC

An apartment fire in New Haven is under investigation on Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to the apartment building on Quinnipiac Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. after getting a report of smoke coming from the building.

When firefighters arrived, they said they found fire on the second floor of a four-unit apartment building.

Investigators said nobody was in the unit where the fire started.

One person in an adjacent unit was assisted and was removed from the building, according to fire officials.

Extra crews were called in to help with the fire due to the weather.

Fire officials said the heat and humidity plays a role for firefighters between all the gear they have to wear and the exertion of fighting the fire. Crews made sure to stay hydrated and rotate frequently, they added.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
