Firefighters responded to a fire in Hartford early Monday morning.
Officials said the fire was called in shortly before 5 a.m. and was at a multi-unit residential building at 68 Wilson Street.
When crews arrived, they said there was no smoke or fire showing. Once inside, crews found fire and smoke on the first floor and in the basement. The fire was also spreading up the walls to the third floor, firefighters said. The fire was under control by 5:30 a.m.
Everyone who was in the building was able to safely escape the fire and four pets were rescued.
“The Hartford firefighters did bring out four pets, so they did save four pets out of this building, which I'm pretty sure their loved ones are very appreciative of,” said Hartford Fire Chief Reginald Freeman.
One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but refused to go to the hospital, firefighters said.
According to firefighters, six families were evacuated from the building. It's unclear how many will be displaced and how many will be allowed to go back inside.
