Fire destroyed a six-bedroom house on Burnt Hill Road in Hebron on Thursday night and now investigators are trying to determine what started it.
The family was inside the home when the fire broke out around 6 p.m., but they were able to get out and no injuries were reported, according to fire officials.
The back of the house was engulfed when firefighters arrived and it was a challenge to get water to the ladders.
The fire hydrants are around three miles from the house, so water tankers were brought in from surrounding towns to douse the fire, officials said.
Departments from Hebron, Bolton, Andover, Glastonbury, Lebanon, Marlborogh and Colchester responded.
