Family Drug Business Busted

A West Hartford drug raid ended with the arrests of three family members. Officers raided a home on Cambridge Street Monday and seized cash, marijuana and Percocet. Detectives say they suspected the home was a drug factory and they'd been watching the house for some time.  All together, five people were arrested.


Drowning Response Questioned

Town constables in Westbrook are facing discipline for their response to a drowning of a 68-year-old woman. Elsie White drowned at a local beach last June. The state is investigating constables Rhea Milardo and Robert Powers for their response to a call to check on White the night before her body was found. 


Teacher Accused of Voyeurism in Court

A former Bridgeport elementary school teacher accused on multiple sex charges was in court Tuesday.  Thomas Bavedas is accused of making and possessing more than 60,000 child pornography images and videos on his home computer in Milford.  Bavedas was arrested in May and charged with sexually assaulting a young girl over the span of several years.  At the time of the arrest, a hidden camera was found, police said.  Bavedas could face nearly 200 years in prison, if convicted.


Teacher's Aid Accused of Sexual Assault

A former teacher's aide at Fitch High School in Groton is accused of having sex with a 16-year old male student.  Shonna Couture, 31, is charged with second-degree sexual assault and two counts of providing alcohol to a minor.  According to the arrest warrant, she told Groton Town Police she met the victim while acting as his adviser for a school function.  Couture worked at the high school for two years until resigning in December.
