Construction Zone Accident

Plainville police are investigating a fatal crash at a construction zone early Monday morning. The driver lost control at the intersection of routes 72 and 372, the car went through a construction zone and into a wooded area off Wilson Street, police said. Route 72 was closed for much of the morning commute Monday. The driver's name was not released as of 9 a.m.


 Standoff in Norwich

A Norwich man is in custody after police say he attacked a woman and barricaded himself inside his home with the victim. Norwich police arrested Faissal Awad, 51, Sunday after they forced their way into the home and rescued a woman who had made a 911 call.


Motel Standoff Forces Evacuation

A man has been arrested after a four-hour standoff at the Grantmoor Motor Lodge in Newington Sunday. A guest saw Barry Wornick, 56, a long-term resident of the Berlin Turnpike hotel, standing on a balcony and holding a shotgun, police said. Part of the lodge had to be evacuated. Wornick surrendered after about four hours.


Griswold Couple Busted in Arkansas

State police in Arkansas have arrested an elderly Connecticut couple after a search of their truck turned up more than 200 pounds of marijuana, police said.  Arthur and Helene Scherp, of Griswold, were arrested Thursday. Arthur Scherp told them he was paid $5,000 to make the trip, according to police.
