Driver Taken to Hospital After Car Crashed Into House in Sandy Hook

A car crashed into a private day care in Sandy Hook Friday morning and the driver was taken to the hospital.

Authorities said a 17-year-old boy was driving the car and they believe he suffered a seizure that caused him to lose control of the car. He crashed into a house on Cherry Street, going through the front windows of the raised ranch.

First responders helped him escape through the backseat. He was taken to Danbury Hospital.

The man who made that 911 call told NBC Connecticut over the phone that he was dropping off his child at the private day care inside 9 Cherry St. when he saw this car sitting inside the homeowner’s basement. It was 9:20 a.m. and one first responder said two children had already been dropped off and were playing in the basement, just feet away from where the car came to the rest after crashing through the front windows.

The owner of the day care was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.
