Drunken Driver Hit Undercover State Police Cruiser: State Police

Connecticut State Police arrested a man accused of driving drunk and striking a state police cruiser Saturday night.

Zachary McDougal, 19, of Newington, faces drunken driving charges.

Police said around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, McDougal was driving north on Main Street in Hartford. A state trooper in an unmarked vehicle was traveling south on Main Street. According to police, when the traffic light turned green McDougal failed to yield right of way to the cruiser and tried to turn left onto Pleasant Street, hitting the cruiser in the process.

The trooper was taken to Hartford Hospital with minor injuries. McDougal did not report any injuries.

McDougal admitted to drinking alcohol and failed field sobriety tests, police said. He was charged with operating under the influence and operating a motor vehicle as a minor with an elevated blood alcohol content. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 25.

Hartford police responded for accident investigation.
