Elderly Couple Attacked in Home Invasion

Just after 4:31 Wednesday morning, police in Woodbridge received a 911 call from a home on Merritt Avenue reporting that intruders had broken into the house and they were being robbed.

When police arrived, the suspects took off.  Officers were able to catch up with one of the suspects, Laureniu Lugojanu.  A short time later, New Haven police grabbed another suspect, Scot Shipley.  There may be more subjects involved.

Woodbridge officers say a gun and a knife were involved, and an elderly woman was treated for minor stab wounds to her hands and arms. The victims tell police they don't know the suspects.

Merritt Avenue is a quiet road that dead-ends at West Rock, right near the Wilbur Cross Parkway tunnel.

Lugojanu, who was given a suspended jail sentence on a reckless endangerment charge last year, and Shipley are both being held on $1 million bond.

The state police major crimes squad is continuing the investigation.
