A 46-year-old emotionally disturbed man who prompted a lockdown at three schools in Milford was found Tuesday afternoon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
Police said one of the man’s relatives called authorities Tuesday morning because they were concerned about him, so police pinged the man’s found and determined he was in Eisenhower Park, so they set up a perimeter and surrounded the park.
At one point, negotiators were able to contact him, but they lost contact. Police said the man said he was armed and threatened to harm himself or police.
In addition to searching for the man, Matthewson School, Orange Avenue School and Platt Technical High School were placed on lockdown as a precaution and police said the public and the schools are no longer in danger, but the park remains closed.
Parents of students at Orange Avenue School said there was supposed to be a half day, but children were dismissed around 3 p.m. with extra police on hand.
