Naugatuck firefighters are putting out a fire at a steel company and Prospect Street will be closed for several hours.
Fire broke out at the Pisani Steel Fabrication, at 360 Prospect St., around 8:30 a.m. and Route 68 will be closed from Union City Road to Locust Street.
It began in a settling tank, officials said, and firefighters were letting the fire burn until the tank emptied.
Employees were evacuated.
Firefighters said the fire was nearly under control as of 9:40 a.m.
No injuries have been reported, but the heat is a concern for firefighters. The American Red Cross is responding by setting up canteen service to provide water for the firefighters.
