First Night: Hartford Welcomes 2010!

Thousands of revelers showed up in downtown Hartford to ring in the New Year First Night style!  The annual family friendly event kicked off at 3pm and continued until the final firework exploded just after midnight.

“This is a tradition.  We come every year.  We couldn’t imagine celebrating the New Year anywhere else,” said Jackie Covington of Canton.

At the Old State House the “Midnight Band” was rocking and rolling.  Those in the crowd just had to get up and dance.  Earlier in the night, kids had plenty to keep them busy.  From face painting to balloon animals and homemade bracelets, the kids were ready to welcome 2010 in style.

“I put Frosty, snowflakes and jingle bells on my bracelet,” said Samantha Epperson of Sarasota, FL.

It was a time to kiss goodbye to 2009 and celebrate the New Year, new decade and new friends.  Outside, fireworks and 2010 light up glasses illuminated the night sky.  The snow just wasn’t enough to keep the true revelers away.

“That’s not going to stop us.  Four wheel drive will take care of everything,” said Dave Santo of Glastonbury.

Alas, another year has come full circle, leaving many wishing for a happy and healthy 2010.

Happy New Year everyone!
