Former Officer Charged With Stealing From Cheshire Police Union

A former Cheshire police officer has been charged with stealing nearly $50,000 from the police union he served as president and vice president.

Prosecutors say 43-year-old Robert A. Anderson Jr. of Wilton was charged Thursday with two counts of first-degree larceny.

A message was left on a possible cellphone for Anderson.

Anderson served as union president in 2008 and vice president from 2011 through 2012.

The warrant alleges Anderson stole more than $22,000 through automated teller machine withdrawals and about $27,400 through debit card transactions from the union's bank accounts.

Anderson resigned from the Cheshire Police Department last September.

Anderson was released on $100,000 bond. He will be arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 17.
