Forum Planned on High Cost of Prescription Drugs

Stakeholders are set to gather to discuss the high cost of prescription drugs in Connecticut and elsewhere.

State Comptroller Kevin Lembo and the Connecticut State Medical Society are hosting a forum Tuesday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on access and affordability of pharmaceuticals.

The discussion will focus on ways to improve patient access to affordable prescription drugs. Organizers say this has become a hardship for families, employers and states.

Officials from Rhode Island-based CVS/Caremark, New York-based Pfizer Inc. and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America are expected to participate in a panel on the industry's perspective on cost growth.

Connecticut's health care consumer advocate and a representative of the Maine Medical Association will be among those discussing the impact and options of limiting cost growth.
