A contractor hit a gas main in the area of East Street and Hudson Place in Plainville Saturday afternoon prompting evacuations.
Yankee Gas says a contractor working in the area hit the main shortly after 1:00 p.m. causing a leak. The leak was isolated and the situation deemed to be under control around 1:30 p.m. Yankee Gas crews will remain on site to assess the situation.
Plainville firefighters went door to door evacuating residents in the areas of Town Line Road, East Street, Twining Street and Alderson Avenue. Residents were allowed back in their homes by 2:00 p.m.
