Helicopter Accident in Groton Sends Worker to the ER

A Connecticut man was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after an accident involving a Black Hawk helicopter at the National Guard facility in Groton.

The accident took place on the ground, according to police.

Four Department of Defense civilian contractors were involved in towing an inoperative UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter toward a hanger.  One of the two "wing walkers" was run over by the left front helicopter tire causing multiple compound fractures to the victim's leg, a police spokesman said.

The victim's identity and condition were not immediately released.  He was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The crew involved in the accident has been de-certified pending the outcome of an internal safety investigation.
