A judge is expected to decide Thursday whether to approve special probation programs for six University of Connecticut students charged with alcohol crimes in connection with the death of a fellow student.
Jeffny Pally, 19, of West Hartford, was accidentally run over by a UConn fire department truck in October after attending a party with the other students.
Authorities said the students had been hosting an off-campus party at a fraternity-affiliated house Oct. 16 after the Kappa Sigma fraternity and Epsilon Pi sorority build a float for the homecoming parade.
Police said Pally drank alcohol and fell asleep in front of a fire department garage door, then was run over by a vehicle that was responding to what turned out to be a false alarm.
Following the tragedy, the university permanently expelled Kappa Sigma and the Delta Gamma fraternity council said it would be closing the Epsilon Pi sorority chapter at the University of Connecticut.
