A New Haven man is accused of flashing a gun at staff members of the Chuck E Cheese in Orange last month when they tried to stop him from leaving because they were concerned he was drunk, according to police.
Officers responded to the Chuck E Cheese restaurant on Boston Post Road at 10:10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 after a disturbance was reported and staff members said the man showed a gun when they went to check on him after finding empty bottles of liquor.
Restaurant employees told police they were cleaning tables in the dining area and discovered several empty liquor bottles left on one of them, so they tried to stop the man who was sitting there from driving away because they were concerned he was intoxicated, police said.
When restaurant staff members approached 38-year-old Stephen Soares, of New Haven, he pulled up his shirt, revealing a handgun in a holster and asked, “Who is going to do something?,” staff members told police.
Officers seized the handgun and took Soares into custody. He has been charged with second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace.
He was released after posting $2,500 bond and is due in court today.
It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
