Man Killed in Wallingford Forklift Accident

The forklift overturned, pinning the operator underneath.

A man was killed after a forklift overturned, pinning him underneath, in Wallingford Monday.

Emergency crews responded to 400 Washington Street after a 911 caller reported the accident around 2 p.m.

A person working at the location used a large excavator to move the forklift off the victim before medical personnel arrived, according to police.

The forklift operator, Walter Sawallich, 60, of Wallingford, was rushed to MidState Hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

Wallingford police and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration are investigating the accident.
