Man Robbed 2 Teens with Machete: Shelton Police

Shelton police have arrested a man accused of attacking and robbing two teens with a machete.

Corey Welch, 26, of Ansonia, is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon, and 5th-degree larceny.

Police said that on October 3 Welch approached a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old in the area of Riverwalk. He reportedly asked them if they knew a certain person, then shoved the 19-year-old to the ground.

According to police, Welch held a machete to the victim’s throat and choked the older teen, then stole the other victim’s phone and threw it in the river. Eventually Welch took off and the victims fled the area.

The victims were not identified.

Welch was arrested Wednesday and was held on a $150,000 bond.
