McCain Campaigns in CT for McMahon

Arizona Sen. John McCain is in Connecticut on Monday to campaign for Republican Senate candidate Linda McMahon.

The 2008 presidential candidate appeared at a morning event in Danbury with veterans.

“I'm so happy to be here with the next senator from Connecticut, Linda McMahon,” McCain said.

On a day when Syria is front and center in international news, McCain said the U.S. should not be putting boots on the ground in Syria.

Later in the day, McCain plans to attend rally at McMahon’s campaign offices in Norwalk, according to McMahon campaign spokesman Todd Abrajano.

McCain previously endorsed McMahon’s rival in the GOP primary, former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays.
Abrajano called McMahon an ‘‘independent-minded Republican’’ like McCain and said they ‘‘see things similarly in terms of bucking their party when they need to.’’

McCain has been embraced in Connecticut, winning the state’s 2000 and 2008 presidential primaries.
McMahon is in a close race with Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy to fill the seat being vacated by Sen. Joe Lieberman.
