Milford Mayor Calls for Irene Zoning Lenience

The mayor of Milford is advocating for a plan to help people whose homes were damaged during the storm.

Many older homes along the Milford shoreline were built prior to new zoning regulations and the mayor is proposing those regulations be suspended for a year so homeowners can rebuild their homes to the way they were before the storm.

"Those homes that sustained more than 50 percent damage to homes under our current regulations would have to meet new zoning and many would not," Mayor James Richetelli said.

The planning and zoning board decided on Tuesday night to table the issue until next week so the members could investigate the idea more fully.
