New Haven Faced 14 Synthetic Marijuana Overdoses on Fourth of July Holiday

At least 14 people overdosed on synthetic marijuana in New Haven on July 4, according to the city officials.

Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., the city faced 14 overdoses from a form of marijuana with a synthetic compound added, New Haven Emergency Operations Director Rick Fontana said.

Cities across Connecticut have faced strings of overdoses from this type of marijuana, often referred to as "K2."

The overdoses primarily occurred in the area of the New Haven Green and on the line of Newhallville and East Rock.

While the patients were taken to local hospitals, many of the patients were released from the emergency room quickly, Fontana said.
