A man who was reportedly seen in the Central Village section of Plainfield, prompting a shelter in place for residents, is dead, police said.
Plainfield police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Deibler Lane and Black Hill Road around 3:15 p.m. for reports of a man with a gun.
State troopers assisted Plainfield officers in searching the area and the man was found in a wooded area. The man shot at officers and officers shot back before the man ran from the scene.
