Driver Dead After Truck Plunges Down Embankment on I-91

The driver of a dump truck that plunged down an embankment on Interstate 91 North in Wethersfield is dead, according to state police.

State Police said the dump truck went off the highway near exit 27 just before 4 a.m. Friday, down a steep embankment and landed in a heavily wooded area.

The driver, who has been identified as 36-year-old Kevin Lockery, of New Britain, was trapped and it took rescue crews more than an hour to remove the him from the vehicle.

Lockery was rushed to the hospital where he died, police said.

A firefighter who suffered from exhaustion and was taken to the hospital to be treated, but was expected to be alright.

State police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call Trooper Michael Dargan at the Troop H barracks in Hartford at (860) 534-1000 ext. 6032.
