A West Haven man is facing DUI charges after police said he drove the wrong way on Route 8 and caused a crash in Waterbury on Wednesday night.
Police said 38-year-old Timothy Ryan was driving south in the northbound lanes of Route 8 when he hit a car driving north head on. That car was then hit by a second car in the northbound lanes.
The crash shut down Route 8 North between Exits 31 and 32.
Several people were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Police said Ryan failed a field sobriety test. He was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and driving the wrong way on a divided highway.
He was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to be in court on Jan. 10.
