School Bus Crash in East Haddam

A school bus and a sport utility vehicle collided on Town Street in East Haddam on Tuesday morning and police said weather was a factor.

EMTs responded to the scene. No serious injuries were reported but the driver of the SUV was transported from the scene by ambulance.

The driver and 15 middle school students were on the bus when the crash happened, officials said. None were injured.

The principal of Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School said the bus had dropped students off at Nathan Hale-Ray High School and was on the way to the middle school when the crash happened.

Parents were called and children were put on another bus. At school, the school nurse examined the students as a precaution.

The crash was reported in the area of 589 Town Street around 7:30 a.m. Police said the Toyota SUV hydroplaned and slid into the school bus.

The SUV's driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  No one on the bus was injured, according to police.

The road was closed as a result of the crash.
