A Shitzu-Poodle on a walk with its owner in Wallingford was fatally mauled by two dogs on Monday, police said.
The owner of the smaller dog called police at 1:04 p.m. and said her pet was attacked on her front lawn on Bernadette Lane around 8:30 a.m.
She told police she was taking her dog for a walk but by the time she reached the front of her property, two pit bulls from two houses away ran out of their yard.
The pit bulls attacked the Shitzu-Poodle while the owner of the smaller dog tried to get them to stop. A neighbor heard the commotion and helped break up the dogs before the owner of the two pit bulls came out and removed his dogs, Wallingford police said.
The owner of the Shitzu-Poodle took her dog to the vet immediately but believes the dog died while en route, police said.
Police said when they went to speak with the owner of the pit bulls, they were not home.
The investigation is ongoing.
