“SlutWalk” Comes To UConn

"SlutWalk" is coming to UConn!

The controversial name has probably already gotten your attention, but it is intended to shed light on  "the tendency in our society to put blame upon the victim of a sexual assault or other crime of sexual violence," according to the group sponsoring the event.

SlutWalk began in February after a police officer in Canada told a group of university students that "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized," according to the group SlutWalk: UConn.

On the web site for its event, SlutWalk: UConn calls its event "a march, a walk, a rally, an event based around the idea that no matter who you are, no matter what you wear, no matter what your reputation is, you do not deserve to be sexually assaulted."

The event on the University of Connecticut campus will take place on Friday, Sept. 30 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
