Trial in Jewelry Store Slayings Set for January

A 28-year-old New York man charged in the slayings of husband and wife jewelers in Fairfield in 2005 will go to trial in January.

The suspect, Christopher DiMeo, 28, of Glen Head, New York, is already serving a life prison sentence in New York for killing Long Island jewelry store owner Thomas Renison in 2004.

DiMeo is the suspect in the slayings of Tim and Kim Donnelly, who were killed during a robbery at their jewelry store in February 2005.

U.S. Marshals took DiMeo and his then-girlfriend, Nicole Pearce, into custody at an Atlantic City motel.

Bridgeport Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin set a Jan. 18 trial date. Jury selection in this potential death penalty case is set to begin Sept. 20, the Connecticut Post reports.

Pearce has pleaded guilty to felony murder for her role in the Fairfield killings and awaits sentencing. She's serving a 20-year prison sentence in connection with Renison's murder.
