The man accused of dragging New Britain Police Officer Brett Morgan in January pleaded not guilty on Thursday.
New Britain Police Officer Brett Morgan was badly injured on Sunday, Jan. 19 when he was answering a call to investigate at North and Willow streets to investigate.
Police said Jaheem Snype, 19, hit Officer Morgan and dragged him 100 feet on the pavement.
Snype was charged with assault on a public safety officer, first-degree assault and attempt to commit murder. He pleaded not guilty to all three counts on Thursday and is due back in court on July 16.
Two women who were in the car with Snype told police that he drove directly at the officer and hit him.
Snype’s half brother, Frankie Gonzalez, was charged with hindering prosecution for helping to hide Snype.
Police found the brothers in Barton, Vermont, closed to the Canadian border, after a massive search.
After several surgeries and intensive rehabilitation therapy, Morgan was able to go home.
Police said in February that Officer Morgan will continue his therapy and rehabilitation as an outpatient as he continues to heal and recover from his injuries.
