A mother, infant and young child were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after an SUV veered off the road and hit them while they were walking on a sidewalk in New Britain, according to police.
The crash happened at about 10:30 a.m., in the area of a construction zone. All three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment, but police said none of their injuries is life threatening. They were alert and conscious at the scene.
Investigators said the driver of the SUV stayed at the scene for questioning. The driver of a nearby garbage truck was also questioned, but no charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
One lane of Allen Street has been closed for sidewalk construction. Police said it's unclear whether construction played a part in the crash.
The police department's traffic division is investigating.
