Victim Restrains Man Trying to Steal His Car: Cops

When a New London man heard someone trying to steal his car, he jumped into action, chased the man and held onto him until police arrived to take over, police said.

The Orchard Street resident was woken just after 4 a.m. on Monday when he heard someone try to start his car, which was parked in his driveway, so he went outside, police said.

David Weintraub, 23, was in the victim’s car and ran when he saw the owner of the car, police said.

But the resident went after him, caught up with him nearby and held him until police arrived and took Weintraub into custody, police said.

As police were investigating, another Orchard Street resident told police someone went into his car overnight and stole several items.

Police said they found Weintraub’s personal items in the car and seized them as evidence.

Weintraub was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit larceny in the third degree and larceny in the sixth degree.

He was held on bond and was presented at G.A. 10 this morning.
