West Hartford Holds Meeting to Discuss Future of Former UConn Campus Property

The town of West Hartford is trying to decide what to do with the former UConn West Hartford Campus property.

The town is holding three identical 90-minute community forums at Town Hall Wednesday to discuss the future of the property at Trout Brook Road and Asylum Avenue.

More than 2,200 people took an online survey regarding a vision for the area, and the results of that survey will be discussed. The town’s consulting firm will make presentations based on the engineering, planning and landscaping of the 58-acre property.

Based on the results thus far, the town council plans to adopt a community vision for the property and collaborate with UConn to recruit future development partners.

The town backed out of buying the property in December, citing concerns about light contamination from PCBs and saying it would cost too much for remediation and other liabilities.

The public can sign up to attend one of the three forums at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. by clicking here.  Town officials also plan to hold another meeting in March.
