Students to March in Victory Parade After All

For a little while, it looked like the Hartford city basketball championship team was not going to be in the UConn Huskies victory parade Sunday, but the call came Thursday that they will be able to march.

The Webster Wizards, a co-ed team from Noah Webster school, won a citywide championship this year. A teacher at the school wanted to reward the team by entering the team in the parade, but the committee running the shin-dig told them the economy was forcing them to keep it short and cheap.

That all changed Thursday morning when Noah Webster schoolteacher Susan Frazer got the call, the Hartford Courant reports.

Sponsors lines up and ultimately The Courant and the television station their parent company owns, along with Michael Zaleski, who is the Hartford Business Improvement District's executive director and coordinated the parade, came up with a sponsorship agreement for the kids to get some recognition too, the Courant said.

"The UConn parade is an exciting event that is important to the fans and people of Connecticut because it celebrates the spirit of competition, teamwork and of course, winning," a company spokesman said in a statement.
