Authorities say a southwest Florida man stabbed himself before crashing his car into a stranger's home.

Hillsborough County sheriff's officials believe 55-year-old Lee Collins was trying to kill himself when he stabbed himself several times early Saturday morning. Authorities say he was driving between 60 and 70 mph when he struck the back of the Valrico residence and went completely through the house.

The two occupants inside the residence were not injured. Engineers are examining the structural damage to make sure the car can be safely removed from the home.

Collins was taken to a Tampa hospital.
