Dodd to Get Presidential Boost

The race is already on for Democrat Chris Dodd's Senate seat and the big guns are coming in to the help the incumbent lawmaker.

President Barack Obama's coming to Connecticut later this month for a fundraiser for the embattled senior senator.

We know he'll be here on Oct. 23, but the time and location of the fundraiser have not been announced.

Dodd has been struggling with low poll numbers and faces a potential Democratic primary because businessman Merrick Alpert has thrown his name into the race.

There are also five Republicans who've announced plans to seek the GOP nomination for Senate, including former WWE President Linda McMahon who's already spent tens of thousands of dollars for media advertising.

Other potential Republican challengers include former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons, who is ahead in the Quinnipiac polls, Tom Foley, Peter Schiff and Sam Caligiuri.

A September Quinnipiac Poll showed 49 percent of voters disapprove of the job Dodd is doing, which was an improvement from an April poll in which 58 percent of voters disapproved of how Dodd was handling his job.
