Huskies’ 2013 Opponents Announced

The Huskies may not have long-term designs on sticking around the Big East but until another conference comes calling the two are stuck with each other. Which means that, barring some pretty remarkable (and unprecedented) circumstances, UConn's football program will be playing they Big East schedule in next year.

On Tuesday, the conference, which will feature five new teams next season, announced the Huskies' opponents for 2013 (the Big East schedule will be finalized early next year).

Conference home games: Louisville, Rutgers, San Diego State, South Florida.

Non-conference home games: Maryland (Sept. 14), Michigan (Sept. 21) and Towson State (Aug. 29).

Conference away games: Central Florida, Cincinnati, SMU and Temple.

Non-conference away games: Buffalo.

“I am very excited for the home schedule that our football team will play in 2013 and I think our fans should be too,” UConn athletic director Warde Manuel said (via the Hartford Courant). “As I continue to say, it is important for UConn to have the Rentschler Field full for every game. Our football team will be working hard to prepare for the 2013 season and we need the support from our loyal Husky followers more than ever.”

The biggest game on the schedule is arguably the Michigan get-together in Rentschler Field on Sept. 21.

The Big East will have 12 football-playing schools next season in two divisions: East and West. The East Division includes Central Florida, Cincinnati, UConn, Louisville, Rutgers and South Florida. The West Division will have Boise State, Houston, Memphis, San Diego State, SMU and Temple.
