Madison's McKinnon Says to Finish in Top 10 ‘Is Pretty Awesome'

Kiley McKinnon, of Madison, fell short of a medal during the aerials finals in Pyeongchang, but she'd not disappointed in her performance and she's just enjoying the Olympic experience.

“My performance was not the best performance I’ve ever had, but I can’t say that I’m unhappy with it,” McKinnon told NBC Connecticut’s Kevin Nathan after the jump.

The 22-year-old landed just a little too deep to advance to the second round of the finals.

“Unfortunately, it was not the landing I was looking for, but I did a solid jump and to finish top 10 is pretty awesome,” she said.

McKinnon said she thought she’d be more upset about the results, but she is just happy she is able to be there.

“Of course, I wanted to do better than I did, but just to say that I’m an Olympian is something not many people get to say and I put my heart out there and I can’t complain,” McKinnon said.

McKinnon is one of three Olympic athletes from Madison to compete in Pyeongchang this year.

“Madison is such an awesome little town and to see the people that were cheering me on and wishing me good luck means the world to me. Sorry I did not perform the best that I could, but I’m just so happy that everyone was there for me,” McKinnon said.

She can credit one of her fellow Madison athletes, Mac Bohonnon, with getting her started in aerials.

McKinnon and Bohonnon were classmates in first grade in Madison, before Mac moved to Lake Placid to train.

He recruited Kiley and even though she had never done aerials before, she jumped at the opportunity.
