Recruit Boykin Talks About UConn

Napheesa Collier needed just a day to decide that she would make an oral commitment to the Huskies. The 6-1 junior from St. Louis is considered one of the best high school players in the country, and she, along with De’Janae Boykin (6-2, F, No. 8 in espnW's top 60), Haley Gorecki, and Katie Lou Samuelson (6-2, W, No. 2) all made visit to Storrs last weekend.

On Monday, Boykin's father spoke with SNY.com's Carl Adamec about how his daughter's recruiting trip went.

“I know D really enjoyed it,” Jeff Boykin said.

De’Janae Boykin averaged 21.1 points, 15.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 3.2 steals and 3.0 blocks per game this past season for C.H. Flowers High, leading the Jaguars (17-2) to the Class 4A South Region semifinals. She was the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year and recorded 17 double-doubles in 19 games, including four games with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds.

Boykin's short list of schools include: Penn St., North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Adamec writes that Boykin will take part in the USA Basketball 3x3 U-18 national tournament from May 30-June 1, and her teammates will be Collier and Samuelson.

The Huskies' incoming freshman class includes Gabby Williams (5-11, Nevada), Sadie Edwards (5-9, New Jersey), Courtney Ekmark (6-0, Arizona) and Kia Nurse (5-11, Canada).
