Justin Schecker is a reporter in the NBC Connecticut New Haven newsroom. You can catch him weekdays from 4, 5 and 6 p.m. on the evening news.
Justin connects viewers with stories happening in New Haven and the surrounding cities and towns along the Connecticut shoreline. One of his most memorable assignments was telling a series of stories about the inspiring people involved with the Closer to Free Ride benefitting the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. Justin has also contributed to NBC Connecticut’s live coverage of the previous two New Haven Holiday Tree Lightings.
Since joining the NBC Connecticut team in September 2015, Justin has covered major stories such as the Sandy Hook families’ lawsuit, the June 2016 opioid overdose outbreak in New Haven and the September 2016 train crash in Hoboken, New Jersey. Outside of work, Justin has become involved in the New Haven community by serving as the emcee of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk and the inaugural New Haven Dragon Boat Regatta at Long Wharf.
Before calling Connecticut home, Justin worked for KGUN9-TV in Tucson, Arizona. He reported on Super Bowl XLIX as well as immigration issues and border security.
Justin is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. When he’s not reporting, he enjoys eating New Haven’s famous pizza, exploring the shoreline and watching his favorite sports teams, New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and Northwestern Wildcats.
